A series of rigorous tests
Because deep-sea diving requires absolute reliability and safety, each Sea-Dweller DEEPSEA must pass Rolex’s rigorous waterproofness tests. I think 1999 was the last year Rolex made and deliver COMEX Sea Dweller watch to COMEX. Can someone please confirm? The company Compagnie Maritime d’Expertise COMEX is still in business: http://www.comex.fr/suite/pres/accueil.html |

Time to update your Comex Rolex Knowledge...
All the Comex fans out there will know that the final delivery of Comex Rolex watches was in 1997. Well, in 2004 Comex Marseilles made an order of the smallest batch of Comex Rolex Submariners and Sea-Dwellers. It is known that less than 20 pieces were delivered. 2004 F serial watches with new style case backs and, of course, factory Luminova dials. I have been extremely lucky and I bought 1 of the 16610 Submariners in late 2007. I have been tempted on many occasions to share this story and the pics of my watch but felt that as only 4 watches have actually left the safe that the "Secret" of the rarest Comex watches should be kept. However, the Antiquorum auction in NYC 17th April auction catalogue makes reference to the 2004 delivery Comex Rolex so I thought now would be a good time to share. Comex Marseilles are retaining the Rolex papers and tag on all these watches and they come with a stamped agreement between the recipient and Comex Marseilles instead. It appears that these watches are being presented as long service awards or thank you's upon retirement to key personnel.
