I don't know much about either one, but the BP 50th anniversary edition really caught my eyes for some reasons. Anyway, how does the 50 Fathoms in general comparing to Rolex? It's prob more expensive, right? But how about actual performance and quality? History wise, I think they are about the same, right?
thx

Flyback Rolex is more like a daily wear watch/cloth.. 50 Fathoms or other hign end diver watch is like Tuxedo. You can only wear in the party. You won't want to wear tuxedo every day. Unless you are 許純美! (Rolex cal 3135 is very reliable plus the Oyster case, triple lock crown...a very perfect diver watch ) If you want a Rolex don't buy from US dealer. Ask some one from HK to bring you one. At least when you want to sell it you can get at least 90% of money back. Actually French Navy used Tudor as their standard issued military diver watch. (It's kind of collectable in the market.) |

BB, I didn't see it in the store. The first time I saw it was on Next Magazine. They had a special on 50 fathoms. There are 2 different kinds of 50 fathoms. They have the regular line, and the anniversary line. I've never tried looking for either one. I just saw them online, and just want to see how it's being compared to Rolex since both of them have been around for many years.
In terms of the crown and the case back, I'm not sure how to judge, b/c I've never owned any military or diver watch. The pictures look pretty sturdy though. It has a metal case back, but I'm not sure it's as good as the Rolex one. That's why I hope someone can tell me more about it. I'll try to find out more about the movement. |

Sorry I thought you were looking for the Ltd one...
Just found the information: http://www.blancpain.com/fifty_fathoms/the_collection/01_fifty_fathoms/steel/ I don't think I will like the "extra-slim" 1151 selfwinding movement EXTRA SLIM....sounds not strong enough for a sporty watch! Calibre: 1151 Thickness: 3.25 mm Case material: Steel Thickness: 13.00 mm 3.25 VS 13.00 is kind of weird? Why they want to put a slim movement inside a sporty watch? Any hand movement will cause BIG shock to the watch? Ref. 2200-1130-71 Fifty Fathoms diver's watch, date and second-hand Complication: Ultra-Slim Self-winding: Yes Case material: Steel Thickness: 13.00 mm Diameter: 40.50 mm Water-resistance: 300 m Between horns: 20.00 mm Sapphire back: No Dial: Black Bracelet: Steel Calibre: 1151 Thickness: 3.25 mm Diameter: 26.20 mm Power reserve in hours: 100 Jewels: 28 Components: 210 Limited edition: No |
