With father's day coming, I have been looking around what's best for him.
After a breif discussion, my understanding is he wants a non-WG, round and automatic watch.
My first thought is, of course, 5296R. But there is none available. I saw a 5711Y and was quite fond of it. But is it too sporty for a 70 YO person? What do you guys think?
If there is any other good suggestions, please let me know!
My father is around 70'ish. Wore Rolex Oyster all his life.

70 year old........recommend " simple function and light weight" !!!
easy to tell the time. 5711R/G/J is good choice, 5296R/G will be your another option!

說實話偶很懷疑您老爸會捨舊勞就新P 老人家一般都很守舊 總是捨不得丟掉一些陪伴自己多年的老東西 說不定您買新P給他高興戴兩三天後 他又戴回原來的老勞囉...

When I was looking for a watch for my 70+ yo father, the most important thing is really "legiblility" meaning he should be able to read the time quite easily.
5711 in all metals (R/G/J/1A) are good choice if you want to buy PP. But as Dent7998 indicates, are you sure your father wants to wear PP or would he prefer to stay with Rolex or something casual? Also, he might be "shocked" at the price of PP vs. Rolex and not wear it as often, even though I assume that you are picking up the bill. There are quite a few 5296R in the AD shops in Taipei. You should still be able to find them in both sector dials as well as in the plain dials (since I know there is NO PPs in any HK ADs!) Along the same type of watches, I've always thought that the Rolex Cellini Platinum is SEVERELY undervalued and a great buy also! The VC Patrimony is also quite nice and comparable to the PP Calatrava. If you are looking for sporty SS watches other than Rolex, I would also recommend looking at AP Royal Oak and VC Overseas. I recommend 5296R or 5127R. But if you will give up 5124G, after you bring me to see this one, it alwayse keep on my mind. I also suggest you can choose Rolex day date for your father, I think all fater will like it. BR Iven |

I finally took him while the dealer had 5124Y, 5146R (new) and 5296R (with track dial), My father tends to like the 5296R. So I think that will be it.
